The Big Wide-Mouthed Frog!
Read up until the “red” crocodile page, then have the students create their own ending to the story. After students have written their own ending, have students share their ending with classmates at their table, then read the ending of the real book.
Buggy Facts!
Keep a class list of interesting bug facts that you learn or that they know or see on TV, etc.
OR
Do a word splash (or online wordle at www.wordle.net) of everything they know about insects

Insect Research!
Have each table (or groups of 3) choose an insect. Have them work together (or individually) to record their research facts on a lotus or bubblemap. Allow them to create a large bug out of butcher paper. Then, working together, have them create a large bubble map (individual bubbles on paper glues onto large insect) on top of their large insect to display in the classroom. Each student would help add one of their interesting facts.
The Ladybug Girl!
After reading the story, Ladybug Girl, have students create a large ladybug out of construction paper. Attach wings with brads, then have them write a story about a Ladybug Girl adventure! (or a story that looks through the eyes and life of a ladybug). Glue story on the inside of ladybug underneath the wings. As wings open and close they will cover and uncover the ladybug story.
In the Life of an Insect!
Each table creates 1 LARGE insect out of butcher paper and construction paper. Students use a lotus or bubble map to create times during the insect’s day (i.e. 10:00am Fly over a garden of flowers and collect the pollen or 11:30 Steal someone’s lunch crumbs from a yummy lunch!). Then after the large insect is complete, have students work together to create a long schedule of that insect’s day (going down the length of the insect) that includes the time, a clock with hands drawn, and a description of what the insect did.
